In the Catholic tradition, we mark the end of the church year—and all the good and bad that occurred therein—by crowning Jesus Christ as King. We go all out on the Feast of Christ the King to name and proclaim that there are no temporal authorities—religious, political, economic, or otherwise—that own us. As Christians, we are owned by one alone—and that is Jesus the Lord.
In the The Gospel for this Sunday, Jesus tells a parable about the kind of people who will live with him forever. It is a story of judgment, of God evaluating the kind of lives people have lived.
On the five fingers of your hand you can learn the truth by which your life and faith will be judged, just five words:
" You did it to me."
If you keep your eyes open you'll find Jesus where you never expected to find him - you'll find him in the prisoner and the poor and the sick. He is the Face that is everywhere. Or as Mother Teresa has said, " Jesus is all around me in his distressing disguise." Whatever we have done or not done to the least of these, we have done or not done to Jesus. God is closer than you think.
Viva Christo Rey!
With you on the Journey,
Rob+
